I'm want to make a granite, EG table for my 12 x 36 lathe over a steel base. I say granite,EG top because I am thin king of embedding long strips of solid granite counter top that I have roughed on all sides. about 80% of the casting would be these solid strips of granite.

By the way glass, granite and aluminum have the same elastic properties so if there is a machinist nearby that makes heaps of Al swarf use that. You can also buy aluminium powder. Then you can machine it easily after it cures vs trying to machine the granite! Cheers Peter

Aluminium has far too much expansion (3x cast iron), lacks rigidity and has poor wearing characteristics in a typical machine tool environment which is why no quality machine tool builder uses it for machine bases. Use Rebar it is cheap and much stronger than most threaded rods.
